Lead and Copper testing is performed periodically as mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of California Department of Health Services. Every three years, the District tests 20 homes built prior to 1986. To date, the District has found no detectable levels of Lead and minimal levels of Copper. Lead and Copper generally enters the water system via lead and copper water lines within a home (i.e., internal corrosion of household water plumbing systems).

Please rest assured that the water delivered to your tap is well within Federal and State standards regarding lead and copper. The District does not have any lead service lines or mains. However, there are copper service lines throughout the system and pre-1986 houses were built with lead solder in the plumbing system. Therefore, the EPA is interested in the lead and copper content after the water enters the home and sits for six hours in the pipes to see how much, if any, of the lead from the solder or copper from the pipes leaches into the water.
